The Petersen execute brilliantly but never in the slightly showy way of younger quartets — and kudos for pairing an early quartet with a late quartet in their series. They are, in general, warmer and a bit slower in tempi than (say) the Artemis — connecting with a Central European tradition like the Vegh. Comparisons are invidious — these and the other releases in this series are fully satisfying, with fine, somewhat closely miked sound and highly recommended.
